Zinc Plus Selenium 30 Capsules

Zinc is a powerful trace mineral responsible for hundreds of functions in the body. It is used in every cell, is a fundamental building block of about 3,000 proteins, and is essential for more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. Although zinc is abundant in many foods, certain conditions may hinder your absorption and utilisation of this vital mineral. Chronic stress, pregnancy, a diet high in grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts, and being over 60 years old can put you at higher risk of low zinc levels. Zinc Plus Selenium is meticulously formulated for optimal mineral balance with zinc glycinate chelate, a highly effective source designed for better absorption.

Combined with highly absorbable antioxidant selenium from enriched yeast and trace amounts of copper, Zinc Plus Selenium provides broadly balanced support:

  • Healthy cell growth and replication.
  • Healthy immune response.
  • Brain health and cognitive functions.
  • Respiratory health.

Description

Zinc Plus Selenium 30 Capsules - Dr. Mercola

Zinc deficiency is a widespread issue globally - nearly 1 in 3 people may be lacking it. Because symptoms of zinc deficiency mimic those of other common disorders, it is often overlooked.

Even if your diet is rich in zinc, certain conditions can hinder the absorption and utilisation of this vital mineral. Stress, pregnancy, a vegetarian diet, or a diet high in grains, legumes, seeds, nuts, and being over 60 years old increase your risk of deficiency.

Zinc plays a crucial role in immune functions, cell growth, and inflammatory responses, so you want to ensure that zinc deficiency does not affect your health.

Studies show that a specific form of standardised yeast enriched with selenium is more effective. This is a complete protein form of selenium compared to a single amino acid form like selenomethionine, which is more commonly found in selenium supplements and multivitamins.

This bioavailable fermented yeast (contains no unhealthy active yeast!) can accumulate and incorporate selenium directly into the protein structure. This helps significantly reduce biomarkers of oxidative stress in the body. In many parts of the USA, as well as in Europe, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, and China, soil selenium content is low, increasing the risk of deficiency. Since supplementing with any form of zinc can reduce the amount of copper, an important micronutrient, we have added a very small amount of copper to our Zinc Plus Selenium.

Your age, diet, current health status, lifestyle, and even your postcode may expose you to a greater risk of zinc or selenium deficiency, or both.

Detail

Product benefits and why this combination of zinc, selenium, and copper

Zinc (15 mg) - 136% RDA - adhere to the recommended daily dosage, i.e., 1 capsule per day
Zinc is in the chelated form of zinc glycinate. A high-potency zinc source in a special form between two glycine molecules. This chelation protects the zinc mineral from phytates and competing minerals.

According to new findings and data, many factors play a role in absorption, including the ratio of molecules to which the mineral is bound, the digestive tract, the degree of chelation, the type of molecules, and last but not least, the manufacturing technique.

Some conclusions suggest improved absorption with the inclusion of fermented foods, although this is not fully confirmed information affecting the entire zinc pathway in the body. Proper chelation and molecular weight are key. This formation can then simulate the natural process of absorption and movement across the mucosal membrane.

Selenium (200 mcg) - 364% RDA
Selenium is another mineral that is no less important than zinc for overall health support. However, when it comes to dietary supplements, not all selenium supplements are the same. This is a biological form of fermented brewer's yeast protein - Saccharomyces cerevisiae (contains no unhealthy active yeast). It involves incorporating selenium directly into the protein structure, which helps reduce biomarkers of oxidative stress in your body.

This full protein form with selenium is, according to studies, more effective than a simple single amino acid form like selenomethionine or sodium selenite, which are commonly used in dietary supplements. The combination provides an effective effect as a double combination of methylselenocysteine and selenocysteine. The biological fermented form thus represents the closest version to the natural form of selenium, e.g., in Brazil nuts.

Selenium supports cardiovascular and cognitive health, also plays a key role in thyroid health, thus being as important as iodine. It also serves as the first line of defence against the accumulation of harmful free radicals in cells. Selenium is an active component of glutathione peroxidase, an enzyme with strong antioxidant properties. Thus, it is key for the synthesis of glutathione - the body's own antioxidant.

Copper (250 mcg) - 28% RDA
Also contains copper in the chelated form of copper glycinate considering that any type of zinc can reduce copper, an important trace element that affects immunity. Be cautious of zinc overdose.

Detail

Zinc is an important element because:

  • It helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels already in the normal range

  • It helps regulate protein synthesis

  • It supports a healthy respiratory system

  • It supports cell function

  • It helps support a normally functioning gastrointestinal tract

  • It helps protect against excessive oxidation (acts as an antioxidant)

Some common signs that may be potential evidence of deficiency:

  • Loss of appetite

  • Moodiness

  • Impaired sense of taste and smell
