What vitamins should you take during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, it's important to ensure adequate intake of certain vitamins that support the health of both the mother and the developing child. The following vitamins are usually recommended during pregnancy: Folic acid or folate: Folic acid is essential for fetal development and helps prevent neural tube defects. It is usually recommended to start taking folic acid supplements before conception and continue throughout the first trimester. Iron: Essential for red blood cell production and preventing anaemia, the need for iron increases during pregnancy. Iron supplements are often prescribed to meet increased demands, especially if low iron levels are detected. Calcium and vitamin D: Calcium and vitamin D are important during pregnancy for bone development and strength. Adequate intake supports the development of the baby's bones and teeth. If dietary intake is low, supplementation may be recommended. Vitamin C: Helps with collagen synthesis and improves iron absorption. Foods rich in vitamin C, along with a balanced diet, usually provide sufficient vitamin C, but supplementation may be recommended if intake is inadequate. Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are important during pregnancy for fetal brain and eye development. Consuming oily fish or taking fish oil supplements can help meet these requirements. It is essential to consult with a specialist or obstetrician who can provide individual advice on specific vitamin and mineral needs during pregnancy. They can assess your individual situation and recommend appropriate supplements based on your health status, dietary habits, and any existing deficiencies.
Which vitamin is not needed during pregnancy?
Most vitamins are important during pregnancy, but there is one significant exception: excessive vitamin A. High doses of vitamin A, particularly in the form of retinol, can be harmful to the developing child and may increase the risk of birth defects. Therefore, it is generally recommended to avoid excessive vitamin A supplementation during pregnancy. However, it is important to note that moderate amounts of vitamin A from food sources, such as beta-carotene found in fruits and vegetables, are considered safe and beneficial. Pregnant individuals should consult with their healthcare provider to determine the appropriate amount of vitamin A intake during pregnancy and ensure their nutritional needs are met while minimising potential risks.
Which vitamins are essential daily
Some vitamins are considered essential for daily consumption to support overall health and well-being. Vitamin A: Important for vision, the immune system, and healthy skin. B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12): Play a crucial role in energy production, nervous system function, and red blood cell formation. Vitamin C: Supports the immune system, collagen synthesis, and acts as an antioxidant. Vitamin D: Essential for bone health, the immune system, and overall well-being. The body can synthesise it through sunlight exposure. Vitamin E: Acts as an antioxidant, helps protect cell membranes, and supports immune function. Vitamin K: Essential for blood clotting and bone health. While these vitamins are considered fundamental, it's important to note that individual nutrient requirements may vary based on factors such as age, gender, health status, and lifestyle. It's advisable to obtain these essential vitamins through a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. In some cases, supplementation may be necessary, especially for individuals with specific nutrient deficiencies or dietary restrictions. Consulting with a healthcare provider or registered dietitian can provide personalised advice on meeting daily vitamin needs.

Features and Ingredients:
Folate - is the natural form of vitamin B9 found in foods, folic acid is the synthetic version often used in supplements. At Fushi, we always prefer the natural variant whenever possible, which is why we've used a premium source of this vitamin, methyl tetrahydrofolate, in our Pregnancy Nurture blend.
Iron - We have included iron, which plays a role in the process of cell division and helps reduce fatigue and exhaustion. Iron may also contribute to normal cognitive function and normal immune system function, which is very important during pregnancy. The form of iron we use has also been shown to be gentler on the stomach during pregnancy.
Iodine - from Seagreens® in combination with organic ginger in accordance with pregnancy and breastfeeding guidelines.
Seagreens® - in the Fushi Pregnancy Nurture blend contains iodine in the amount of 200 µg/day, which is a higher amount recommended by the European Food Safety Authority for pregnancy. Iodine contributes to normal thyroid function, cognition, and nervous system functioning. Due to the natural environment in which they are grown, there is a possibility of cross-contamination with allergens, see the statement "May also contain" under the list of ingredients.
Probiotics - 200 million live bacterial spores of Bacillus Coagulans with organic ginger for gentle digestive support.
Bacillus coagulans - For additional support during times when you may experience morning sickness or other gastrointestinal issues, this unique blend contains organic ginger, which has been shown to help reduce nausea during pregnancy. It also contains 200 million live bacterial spores of Bacillus coagulans, which have been shown to survive better in the acidic conditions found in the stomach than the bacteria alone9.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D plays a key role in strengthening immune functions. Vitamin D is also essential for calcium absorption and helps develop healthy bones and teeth. It supports the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Vitamin K2
Compared to many other vitamins, the roles and health benefits of vitamin K2 have only recently been discovered. What does vitamin K2 help with? It has many functions in the body, but the most important is that it helps the body use calcium and prevents the calcification of arteries, which can lead to heart disease. New studies show that a deficiency of this vitamin is also linked to diseases including osteoporosis.
DHA from Algae
Oil rich in DHA from microalgae Schizochytrium. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is one of the most important omega-3 fatty acids. Like most omega-3 fats, it is associated with many health benefits. DHA is part of every cell in the body, plays an important role in the brain, and is absolutely crucial during pregnancy and infancy. Because your body cannot produce it in sufficient amounts, you must obtain it from your diet.
Biotin
Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is one of the B-complex vitamins that help the body convert food into energy.
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) is important for normal brain development and for maintaining a healthy nervous and immune system.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B-12 (cobalamin) plays a crucial role in red blood cell formation, cell metabolism, nerve function, and DNA production, the molecules inside cells that carry genetic information.

When a product is claimed to be "free from fillers and bulking agents", it means it does not contain additional substances commonly used to increase the volume or weight of the product without providing significant nutritional or functional benefits. Fillers and bulking agents are often added to supplements or products to make them appear larger or to facilitate manufacturing processes. These substances, which may include ingredients like starches, sugars, or synthetic additives, do not contribute to the nutritional value or intended purpose of the product. By being "free from fillers and bulking agents", the product aims to provide a more concentrated and purer form of the desired active ingredients without unnecessary additives.
