The story and signature behind the brand
Catarina Barbosa is a Portuguese premium skincare brand from the coastal town of Vila Nova de Milfontes in the Alentejo. It was founded in 2019 by a trained chemical engineer and started with two formulations and a deliberately minimal identity.
What sets it apart is that the brand keeps the whole process to itself: every formulation is, according to the brand, developed in an in-house laboratory right in Vila Nova de Milfontes, with nothing outsourced. It names its plant oils specifically — argan, camellia, jojoba, rice bran, sweet almond and oat. In 2025 it went through what it calls a complete transformation, from visual identity through to the formulations.
